Georg Hoefner studied pharmacy at LMU from 1981 to 1984, qualified as a pharmacist in 1985, joined Dr. Wanner’s research group in 1986 and completed his PhD in pharmaceutical chemistry 1989. Then he worked at the Department Pharmacy in Prof. Eiden’s and subsequently in Prof. Wanner’s group in charge for biological assays for almost three decades. He started in 2001 with LC-MS as read out for binding assays. From thereon he was engaged in the development and supervision of MS based binding assays in the Wanner group. He developed numerous contributions regarding LC-MS as well as biological activity in publications, co-edition of a book (“Mass Spectrometry in Medicinal Chemistry” as an issue of the series Methods and Principles in Medicinal Chemistry) and authorship of book chapters. Since 2016 he is the head of the mass spectrometry quantification unit of the department. In the study programs of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Bachelor and Master) he is entrusted with seminars, lectures as well as lab courses covering analytical subjects such as chromatography, mass spectrometry and LC-MS.
